IMHA ELECTION: OF SOLOMON CHINONSO UCHEKA, EDITH NWOSU, AND OTHERS, WHY THE ODDS ARE IN FAVOUR OF RT. HON. AMARA CHYNA IWUANYANWU, KSC

+ Njoku Macdonald Obinna

Owerri, Imo State.

With barely 6 days to the March 18, 2023, rescheduled governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, one can arithematically; like those who play Bet 9ja games, add 2 -to- 2 to get four.

Specifically, one can, all things being equal, predict the outcome of the Imo State House of Assembly election for Nwangele Constituency; which is now tailored towards three major contenders in the race: Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Deputy Speaker of the IMHA; who is seeking re – election for a second term in office under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Solomon Chinonso Ucheka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Miss. Edith Nwosu of Labour Party (LP).

Judging from an objective, and critical indepth analysis of the frenzied campaign thus far, in Nwangele LGA: the context, albinito, was truly between the candidate of All Progressives Congress and that of his Peoples Democratic Party’s major contender. In other words, it’s meant to be a two horse power race between Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu (Mr. Capacity) and Solomon Ucheka Chinonso, also known by his supporters as Pasolo. If for any other reasons , the duo have reasonable amount of strong grassroots support- base and mass appeal. While Pasolo leverages on his relative goodwill among some youths of Nwangele LGA, his major strength lies on the support he hopes to garner from the member representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency, Chief Ugonna Ozurigbo; whose re- election bid has been kept on hold since the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared it inconclusive. OZB still has Barr. Harrison Nwadike to contend with.

Also struggling, or rather, working so assiduously to keep pace with the two major front-liners in the race; the duo of Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu and Solomon Chinonso Uche, is the candidate of Labour Party , Edith Nwosu, whose electioneering approach has not been colorful and impressive until the current wave of the Obi-dient Movement started sweeping across the country. The Abba Diaporans are the ones compelling her to run without relative grassroots support base. According to her, Abba is highly marginalized and she has thrown herself up to change the narrative.

The Abba born Amazon and philanthropist turned politician, Edith Nwosu, may have only luck and uninformed Nwangele electorate to bank on for a possible victory, not necessarily by her concerted efforts, organised campaign organization, well oiled grassroots structure, followership and leadership support since she could best be described as an ‘opportunistic new errant’ in Nwangele politics who hasn’t contributed anything to the development of the LGA. Most people who may be voting for Labour Party on Saturday, will not be doing that for her but rather because of Peter Obi and the Obi-dient global family. This is a statement of fact.

However, the questions that have been running through my mind this morning since I picked up the golden pen to put my thoughts down, remain:

• What are the chances of both Solomon Chinonso Ucheka and Edith Nwosu to win the Saturday’s election?

• Who are strongly behind them ?

• Does Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu deserve a second term in office ?

• What factors would play significant roles in his re – election bid ?

In their permutations, political analysts; the conservatives, onlookers, keen observers of Nwangele politics and her leadership have whipped up the zoning arrangement sentiments that since the immediate past Interim Management Committee Chairman of Nwangele LGA, Hon. Cosmos Iwuogu and the serving Sole Administrator, Hon. Prince Mbachu, are from Amaigbo- Nwangele North, it is right , fair and just that the seat remains with Nwangele South, Ofeiyi; where the duo of Solomon Chinonso Ucheka and Edith Nwosu are slugging it out with their younger brother; the current House member, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu.

On the path of the PDP’s candidate, Solomon Chinonso Ucheka, who is making a third attempt on the coveted seat of Nwangele Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, this Reporter, Njoku Macdonald Obinna , authoritatively gathered that his moral was seriously dampened the moment Rt. Hon. Jones Onyereri , the Peoples Democratic Party ‘s Senatorial candidate for Orlu Senate was disqualified through a controversial Supreme Court judgement. Pasolo, according to a source , was highly demoralized as Jones Onyereri was one of the major motivations behind his political aspirations as the Abajah- born Malaysia based acclaimed philanthropist leverages on the leadership aura and strong goodwill oozing from the formidable political structure of his neighbouring Nkwerre political ally and leader; Rt. Hon. Jones Chukwudi Onyereri, Ph. D.

Again, fate seems to be running against Pasolo as the only hope he banks on for a possible victory at the polls, the re – election of his political godfather, mentor and benefactor, Chief Ugonna Ozurigbo (OZB), was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the Imo State Governor, Sen.Hope Uzodimma, is under pressure by the APC leadership of Isu|Njaba LGAs to listen to their age long outcry against marginalization and call for equity, fairness and justice in the largest Federal Constituency, NINN.

Ironically, a handful of Nwangele youths who initially carried the Pasolo’s campaign project on their heads are gradually dropping in numbers to pitch their political tents with Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu whom they said have the capacity and courage to protect their votes after elections. A number of the PDP leaders who are still with Solomon Chinonso Ucheka , are people who are in one way or the other, have benefited from the Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu, or had built some kind of personal relationship with him and as such, may not want to come out in the open to fight him. A few of them shouting online, are those who didn’t benefit directly or indirectly from his 4 years representation.

While Solomon Chinonso Ucheka had enjoyed massive grassroots support in the early 2000s through his Pasolo Foundation when he was said to be bouyant enough, according to a family source. Regrettably, the financial capacity to keep recontesting for elections is his albatross since he has not been that lucky to win elections. This is more so, aftermath of the death of his beloved parents whom he gave befitting burials at different intervals. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Amen!

In lieu of the above, if peradventure the Saturday, March 18 , 2023 election, didn’t favour him, he may go down in history as one of the unlucky politicians in Nwangele LGA that invested in human capacity building with his life’s savings into a political system that didn’t reward his little contribution towards societal development as these efforts seem to have been overtaken by events through constant political defeats. While he has the right and chances to win his election, the timing can be said to be wrong as he contesting against one of the dogged legislative WizKids and goal- getters in Imo State, Iwuanyanwu.

From the benefit of hindsight, strong supporters of Chief Ugonna Ozurigbo have also advised their principal; the federal lawmaker, not to dabble into the election of Pasolo with the Imo Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, since he must rescue himself before looking for another political burden and baggage to carry given the fact that his re- election bid is not yet over! At this point: “ it’s to your tent, oh Israel. “

Judging from the background of the foregoing, while Pasolo ‘s political strength has been practically decimated, the only thing the Labour Party’s candidate, Edith Nwosu, is banking on is the votes of aggrieved Nwangele electorate who are generally going through narrowing experience in Nigeria under the President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s APC led federal government, not necessarily their state lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu.

Who are the leaders behind the political project of the duo of Solomon Chinonso Ucheka and Miss. Edith Nwosu ? What meaningful contributions have they made in Nwangele LGA that would compel the electorate to line up behind them for leadership direction? The major PDP factor in Nwangele LGA, Chief Ugonna Ozurigbo, is just being careful! Who is not afraid of the power of incumbency?, eventhough the God factor also plays out in politics.

Apart from High Chief Obinna Duruaku (Onwa Chineke), a respected community leader and PDP Chieftain who may have some axe to grind with the Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu, others like Engr. Kenneth Ebubeogu, Dr. Johnbosco Nkpadobi , Dr. Okey Onyejiaka, Engr. Humphrey Amara , Engr. Celestine Opurum, High Chief Michael Onuoha, Nze Dom Apala, Chief Jeff Uju, etc, are technocrates, stakeholders, successful businessmen and true progressives who see beyond partisan politics, but rather place much premium on sustainable development and relative peace. While they may have their individual reservations about the representation approach of Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, but they will not oppose his re- election bid given the fact that the Deputy Speaker has performed credibly well in his four years stint as a state lawmaker.

Outside and beyond these, alot more counts for Amara Iwuanyanwu, not on the basis of his political party; the All Progressives Congress (APC), but his credentials, goodwill , social contacts, courage, strong presence, experience, exposure and good education. Most leaders and Nwangele electorate who will line up to vote Amara Iwuanyanwu for re – election will be doing that on different individual reasons. Some, for the sake of his late father, Chief Sir, Chyna Ignatius Iwuanyanwu(Ugochinyere Mba of Dim na Nume) , to sustain his legacies, while others may be doing so on strong reasons of his track record of legislative performance.

From United Isu Progressives, Amaigbo Unity Forum, Amaigbo Town Union, Abba Progressives, Nwangele traditional institution, down to the youths of Nwangele Constituency; all seem to be on the same page for the re – election bid of Rt. Hon. Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu. Apart from being an uncompromised Apostle of the Shared Prosperity Administration in Imo State under Gov. Hope Uzodimma, Amara Iwuanyanwu has also proven his capacity to manage very well the position entrusted to him on May 29, 2019, by the mass of the members of his Nwangele State Constituency.

Good a thing, the Apex leader of Nwangele LGA, High Chief Johnbosco Ozigbu, (Ph.D, PGD, Oxford University, United Kingdom) (Ogwuaga of Ogwuaga) alongside other meaningful leaders , critical stakeholders and the good people of Nwangele LGA have agreed that Amara Iwuanyanwu would complete his two terms in office just like his predecessors; Rt. Hon. Amaechi Nwaoha and Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, before power will be returned back to Nwangele North.

One good term, deserves another!

Ka Amarachukwu mezuo na Nwangele 🙏🏽.
