Eighteen presidential candidates are jostling for Nigeria’s top job, but only three are the front runners. In alphabetical order, they are; Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The number of registered voters are 93.4 million, but only 87 million of the voters have collected their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), hence, eligible to vote.

The North-West will have the highest volume of votes with 22.2 million registered voters or 24% of the votes. Followed by South West with 17.9 million voters or 19% of the votes. The North Central comes third with 15.3 million voters or 16% of the votes. The South-South takes the fourth spot with 14.4 million registered voters or 15% of the votes. The North East, in the fifth position, has 12.5 million voters or 13% of the votes, while the South East, in the sixth position, has 10.9 million voters or 12% of the votes.

The voters would be casting their ballots across 176,606 poling units, 8,809 electoral wards and 774 local government areas in the 36 states of the federation.

For the first time, Nigeria will be conducting its presidential election using the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), a machine that has the capacity to accredit voters and transmit election results to a dedicated portal called the irev.
