The Minister of Transportation, Mr.Chibuike Amaechi, has declared his interest to contest the 2023 presidential election.

Amaechi, who disclosed this in Port Harcourt Saturday at the Thanksgiving organised by his party, the All Progressives Congress APC in Rivers State, said he has had much experience in governance for over 23 years, adding that he understands the needs of the nation.

He said: “I have titled this message, Forward with Co offurage. Fellow Nigerians, I stand before you today to declare my intention to contest. I stand here to submit my application to serve as the next President of our nation.”

Recall that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi came on limelight and political relevance flying on the fatherly wings of Dr. Peter Obi who drafted him as a state legislator. He eventually was elected Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and served for two tenures of 8 years in office. At the same time was elected Chairman of Nigeria’s Conference of Speakers where he demonstrated legislative wit, dexterity and leadership sagacity as a dogged , proactive and sound lawmaker between 1999- 2003.

Elected Executive Governor of Rivers State in 2004 under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, a twist of political drama played as he was substituted with his first cousin, Sir Celestine Omehia. The lion of Ubima used , Chibuike Amaechi, through the political efforts of his ally, Barr. Nyesom Wike, reclaimed his mandate at the Supreme Court and returned elected. He governed Rivers State seamlessly for 8 good years 2007-2015. He also served as Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum.

It’s also on record that Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s political war with Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan deepened to the extent that both Niger Delta brothers saw each other as sworn enemies. Amaechi critised Jonathan for mismanaging Nigeria’s Sovereign Wealth Funds, luckstre leadership and corruption which made the then President to neglect Rivers State because of a seeming political war declared against him by their state governor.

Having shown to be trusted by Nigeria’s first family and the Northern Oligarchy, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi has been tipped as a likely flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress having meticulously handled and delivered the Monorail project assigned to him by president Muhammad Buhari.
